About
Follow Fionn's Giant Adventure (previously known as the Giant's Lair at Slieve Gullion Forest Park). Follow the trail, there's so much to explore. Seek out fairies, spells, music and more. Help is at hand as you'll have fairies and warriors to help you follow the trail.
Download our app to take photos with the legendary Fionn Mac Cumhaill as you trek along his magical adventure trail. Find out more HERE.
Look out for clues and you'll save the day!
Follow the path to begin at chapter one (the trail starts from the entrance of the Giant's Lair). The Slieve Gullion fairies in this Fairy Kingdom are tricksy and naughty so follow their clues to continue your quest. But there's no sign of Fionn, where has he gone? So keep searching the trail, keep searching for clues. Watch out for the witch, she's always bad news, so keep out of her sight .. and keep your spells handy. Follow this trail through the land of music, to find out more about the legend of Fionn ... follow the walk to finish the story!
Where does Fionn's Giant Adventure start?
Set in the wonderful Hawthorne Hill Forest Nature Reserve (affectionately known as the Fairy Park) is an innovating magical living storybook and is open to girls and boys, elves and fairies and adults alike to wonder around. The Fairy Walk will take you on an unforgettable journey of enchanting fairy houses and arts features creating a fantastical childhood land of mystery, dragons, giants, witches and fairies.
There will be an app available very soon for you to download to help follow the trail and bring the magic to life. Call into the Visitor Information Office for more details and to pick up your activity map.
Local Legends and Mythical Folklore
This art along the way has all been inspired by the rich tapestry of local legends and mythical folklore on over a mile of woodlands at Slieve Gullion Forest Park. Make sure to stop for selfies along the way, do be mindful that the areas can contain some uneven terrain and, depending on the time of year some frolicking fairies. Following Fionn's Giant Adventure takes approximately 40 minutes (add on extra time for selfies and exploring). There is a very special tree along the Fairy Walk, it’s a dummy tree where children can leave their dummies for the fairies. A truly magical and memorable place for children to come to!
Stroll along the fairy trails to Blue Belle Cottage, grab a seat at the Giant’s Table and sneak a peek at local witchy trickster, the Cailleach Beara.
This walk in Slieve Gullion is, without a doubt, the premiere outdoor attraction for children from far and wide, capturing a genuine sense of enchantment and mystery in the beautiful setting of Slieve Gullion Forest Park.
There's plenty of family fun things to do in Slieve Gullion Forest Park and a visit the Slieve Gullion Adventure Playground (beside Fionn's Giant Adventure and the main car park) is highly recommended.
Facilities
In the Slieve Gullion Courtyard buildings there is the Synge & Byrne Café (8am to 6pm, 7 days a week) and a Visitor Information Office and toilets. The café, and toilets have disabled access from the carpark – follow the signs.
